From one who doesn't agree with giving other countrys money. Think of the British £s that went towards Pakistans nuclear weapons.
How about Oxfam starting a co operative, where the middle class and dopes with money can invest.  The money pays for factories and employ local workers at double the local rate. The factories sell there goods and the profit can go back to the guys with the "High Moral Compass" Or and this is the seller.  The money is reinvested into the factorys and local schools.
I think one months gross pay from the middle class and dopes with money a year should make a good start for this venture.
This is win win. Local workers paid over the odds for their time, spending their money locally. The cash circulates through out the community.
The "High Moral Compass" Set can go to their wine and cheese parties and boast about a good job done. Imagine the mileage you can get when you tell all your friends that you've given your dividend back to the peasents in perpetuity

So you're paying double labour rates and expecting to make a profit ?  fair play.

Its ok though because the highly inflated prices of the goods that it sells will pay for the wages.

So we're just relying on some rich men from developing countries to be willing to sacrifice a percentage of their profit margin for the sake of what they see as the 'underclass'? What could possibly go wrong?!

This sort of scheme does happen. Unfortunately, the difference is it requires British people spending "British pounds" to get it going.

If you're that keen to make this sort of thing work, then why not get buying from Via Design? Or does it hurt you to think that it was set up by British investors (even if not government foreign aid)? http://www.viadesign.org/index.html

I'd say that greed and corruption would make sure it won't work.

Can I be a local worker on double pay. I'll outsource my job to China and pocket the 80% I have left. Result.
