Cheesy Even after this inconsistent season part of me is saying "If we can keep performing like we did tonight we've still got a chance of being up there".

Another part is calling me an overly optimistic twat but it's nights like this that keep us watching lower league football I suppose! COYR.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i'm fairly sure we were in a similar position in 1990 and 2003 and still made the playoffs. In all honesty I don't believe we're anywhere near consistant enough this season but there's always a chance.

28 points at this stage last year would have you about 11th right now, 3 points ahead of Southampton.  The top 8 or so were on a lot more points.

On the downside, Southend were about 6 points above the relegation zone hanging onto the play off coat tails just about.

I think the confusion arose because you said "in 2003", leaving it open to (mis)interpretation as to which season you were referring to.
