I love this if only for the two old fellas staring down casually as the ruck breaks out below them.

I was at that game. Northampton fans were a bit naughty in those days. They'd just got promoted and it was a League Cup game. I was in the Stratton Bank and remember one of their fans shouting out to Wilf Dixon " no wonder you've got hair around your face you play like a fucking cunt". Wilf gave the bloke a lovely menacing smile back. Wilf was hard.

That's because it was a Police State at that time. Based on the fact that they were looking for Miners to beat up (the underground, rather than Underage kind)

Anyone who went up on a coach will I'm sure remember being stopped by the Old Bill at every Motorway exit within miles.

Went there on a double decker bus....got chased by police dogs, and if memory serves me right a Swindon fan got stabbed.
It was a saturday match but i went many times on a Friday night..........the old three sided ground under lights on a friday was a good atmosphere...unlike the monstrosity they call home now.

Oh great, i remember you fuckers on the double decker buses. It was a riot afterwards and then all you fuckers get on your buses leaving us stupid fuckers who went by car to get back to the cars where Northampton fans were just picking off small groups.
There were 2 fans stabbed before the game but they fell for the classic alley way trick.

He he, the guy in front 636 Melvyn Hughes used to be the control room sergeant in Chippenham when I joined - cracking sense of humour but didn't mess around when they let him out for the day ;-)
