Wasn't the main implication "appearances can be deceptive" meaning that the 'black man did some good, contary to how he looks'. Pretty disgusting.

But nations/society evolve at different rates. Wasn't so long ago in this county black football players had to endure the money chants and bananas being thrown on the pitch.

 Isn't the implication don't go round giving balloons to little girls, or people will think you're a paedo?
