Surprised no-one's commented on this yet (although I know everyone's preoccupied laughing at Leeds). Ian Watmore quits as FA Chief Exec, reportedly because he find himself powerless to do the job, specifically to reinstate the FA as the game's regulators/administrators - "neither a chief nor an executive" is how he described his job. So just when the game needs a resurgent FA to rein in the ever more avaricious PL and the FL come to that, it actually loses more power. Scudamore must be so proud.

English football's claims to be able to govern itself are becoming ever more laughable by the day.

Not really surprising is it, at the FA they have committee's for committee's and all these old farts from regional fa's who like to think they are important have too much power.

The FA needs complete overhaul but unfortunetly there does seem to be too many in higher positions thta want to resist change.

It all went wrong when they allowed the PL to form

Watmore has been quoted in today's press, as saying that he had no problem with the
Chairman Lord Triesman.Speculation has suggested that he had problems with Dave Richards,
David Gill and Phil Gartside.Richards has denied this, but he would wouldn't he?

Talking of Gartside,i wonder if he has been involved in a new idea that's being floated by the
Premier League?

There is a Premier League proposal to substantially increase the parachute payments
for any club  relegated from the PL.

The proposal is that the payments would increase to 19 million for each of the first two seasons
and then a further 4 million, for each of the next two seasons.A net 46 million over 4 years!

As this is a Premier League proposal, it would be voted on by the PL clubs, with the Football League
having no say whatsoever! Just how much support it will receive,we will have to wait and see.

I don't understand why anyone gets parachute payments... surely the prizemoney for 20th is large enough?

It should be if they didn't all grossly overspend in a desparate attempt to keep suckling at the golden teat.

Heard about this on the radio last night - yet another way the PL is continuing to serve it's own interests while buggering up the rest of football. The sooner it implodes the better

Regarding the FA Cup, for the top clubs to take it seriously, all that has got to happen is one of the two automatic spots for the Chumpions League given to the FA Cup winners, with the other taken obviously by the Prem winners.

Wenger and co would then stop fielding weakened teams.

True.

Either that or UEFA need to gamble a bit and offer some big prize money for the Europa League.

Its a joke teams like Villa spend all their time getting into Europe and then play weakened sides when the get there.

Or the winners of the Europa Cup automatically qualifies for the Chumpions League for the following season.
