Anyone ever done this and made money from it?
Looking into it myself, think all the good ones are taken though

I assume your intention is to register a couple of plumb domain names and hope you get an offer? Obviously you can't just nick say, www.mcdonalds.co.uk (if it were available) and hope McDonalds pay you loads. I think squatting like that has some legal get out clause for the company. So in a word no, it would be difficult to make money,

aye yeah that was the plan. I know it wouldnt be easy and you'd have to do loads of research, but it seemed like a decent risk. I'll investigate furtehr

Only illegal if you use a trademarked name.

Yeah, you can't register anything trademarked, well you can, but you'll often get it taken off you, unless you can provide proof you're not squatting as such, and have a genuine use for it. This of course is hard if the companies trademarks are words that are hard to use generically.
Also, if you buy domains with trademarked terms in them, if at any point you decide to sell it for profit, the trademark owners can seize it. And don't buy from GoDaddy, they're total cunts and will seize domains for no valid reasons. And don't check domains with a registrar because there are many, GoDaddy included, who if you don't buy imediately then they register it themselves (i forget what the term for this is) and then they put it up for auction! Cheeky cunts.
Check your domains with whois.sc or who.is and and check for blank who is info, then register.

You've missed the domain name window by a good few years - it's not just all the good ones that are taken now, pretty much all of the bad ones have been as well.
One option would be to go for domains that have expired and not been renewed - there are lists of them available on the web so you can see what is about to be released. Or wait until a new TLD is created and then join the free for all for the decent domains. Or try to find some misspellings and put a page of ads up on them.
To be honest you're most likely wasting your time and possibly money.

A friend of a friend (yes I know how this sounds) was developing fairly standard eCommerce sites for small customers and making a few quid.
He now claims he is making thousands off drop shipping and sales referrals. He builds a niche front-end site e.g. fat bottomed sex dolls that tops the list in search engines and then simply forwards the order to the genuine retailer of fat bottomed love dolls taking a commission.
Personally I can see how he can be making a few quid but surely this isn’t a profitable business on such a small scale?

Bottom dropped out of the market since Freddie Mercury died apparently.
