Interesting, albeit a slightly cobbled together piece in the Adver about the club's relationship to industry in the Town...

http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/4845079.Small_Town_Club__Big_Town_Economy/

Quote
The nature of these modern enterprises, the people they employ and their employee’s association with Swindon Town Football Club explain, in part, the evident decline in engagement between town and community from 1980.

Not sure that's got anything to do with it. Worth comparing us to Franchise as the growth of the towns is similar.

If you take in to account their new stadium and larger population, our attendances are pretty similar.

So I'd say its a bullshit article cobbled together to fill some space.

The alternative title for this article was "It's been snowing, fill some space with any old cack"

Christ. Do people actually dream up this bollocks?

It answers its own question in one of the first few paragraphs:

Quote
Swindon Town FC, history dictates, are a side followed by the masses when the quality of football is high and results are favourable.

Well I thought it was an interesting and thought provoking read.

There could be an interesting study made of the social history of STFC and its links to the community, but this stuff is just opinionated drivel of the worst kind. Not even worth picking apart.

Well I thought it was an interesting and thought provoking read.

The only thought that it provoked from myself was "Bollox:

"Far from learning from the models of many other successful professional football clubs, STFC’s administrative personnel have shown through history to be continually oblivious to their predecessors’ weaknesses, mistakes and shortfalls."

When he states "through history", I can only assume that he is referring to the last decade. The author just seems to copy and paste stuff from before then.

A short sighted and lazy piece of journalism that is not worthy of this thread.

Over half of the Championship are technically insolvent. It's worse in the lower leagues. Man Utd are about to hit the wall with the floating part of their debt and every other Prem club is looking for a buyer or loaded up with debt.

Whilst Swindon has had its share of muppets running the club, it's not as if we're the only club in that position.

It's not even good English - was it translated from the original Serbo-Croat or something?
