Swindon Town in 1913....looking at the prem program v West Ham it gives some great trivia.....Town won the opening game at West Ham in front of 25,000...Wheatcroft scoring(was to die during WW1)and Fleming.....Town won the next 8 games...incredibly Town played 3 games on consecutive days over Xmas....losing 5-2 at Bristol Rovers on Xmas day....they beat the same team 5-0 on boxing day!....the following day Town stuffed West Ham 4-0....incidently Fleming missed the Xmas day match because he was religious.
A couple of other points but not related to this season is that Southamptons first ever game at The Dell was v Swindon,Town lost 4-1 and West Hams last game in Canning Town before they moved to Upton Park was v Swindon.....in front of a capacity crowd Town stunned the departing Londoners winning 1-0.

Wasn't playing games on consecutive days over Xmas normal until not that long ago? Maybe the 60's?

Mmmm.......86/87 is the last time I remember us playing on consecutive days....home game followed by that lovely trip to Gillingham as many of us will recall.
