Been a while since we've been competitive in this league....in fact 04/05, when as late as Feb we were 7th a point off the PO's, to then fall away horribly.

By then Kingy was using the likes of Slabber and Proctor up front...SSP dried up a bit, probably as he knew a transfer was on the way, and crowds started to drop...the aforementioned position being achieved after a mid week win v Port Vale in front of 4700.

The key event in that season was the almost signing of Darius Henderson...fee agreed with Gillingham, deal broke down as agent wanted a cut....he went for 10x what we'd agreed not long after  Sad

Doubtless the falling away was partly caused by the state of the club off the pitch. We've now got that right...but perversely, it means we're nowhere near getting the on pitch bit right.

Going into the season with one fit striker, is however you dress it up incompetence, of the sort, Kingy would have got slaughtered for.

A couple of seasons back, under Sturrock when we added Paynter and Cox at the end of August....we had Corr, Sturrock, Roberts and Peacock as some sort of options..and Arrieta.

good news Reg, Peacs is back in training. Subject to not breaking down again he should be starting his preseason soon. We can pretend he's still a striker.
