There's an article on Carlisle on the Beeb website, which states that come what may next season they'll be trimming the wage bill significantly...it also reads as if the CEO wouldn't mind too much going down as doing OK there might mean bigger crowds.

It is quite an encouraging read.

Interesting that they intend on sticking by their manager if they go down.

Vaguely on the subject of the cost of going down, is it just me or have there been fewer L1 games on TV this season?

I think that when he left Smith made a decision that many in a similar position would also have made - bigger club (don't shoot me, it's the truth), longer contract and more money.  Unfortunately for him it didn't work out, and you have to wonder in the long term if his career may have been better if he had stayed - he would have been a key player here the season after he left.
