Feel free to abuse me for being completely inept  Embarrassed but only if you can also offer constructive critisism (I fucking know thats probably spelt wrong so don't start on that one!)

I want to put together a CD for my little girls 6th birthday party (cheesy songs such as Amerillo, hey baby etc etc). When I have downloaded  stuff for my ipod I do it round the inlaws where they have downloaded vuse and hence download music very easily for free (and they do the work for me while I drink beer). I can't download the software for some reason best known to virgin and am unable to use these sites.

The point of my plea is...

1. It is Kerry's birthday party on tuesday

2. I don't actually mind paying for the music but have been sat at my computer for hours trying to find the tracks in a format that can be saved and have found most of the websites impossible (compared to the "dodgy ones" which I can't use without the above programme).

If anyone can offer me advice I will be gratefull. At the moment I am getting verry pissed (off), I don't mind the prices most sites are asking (79p per track) but the ones I am looking at seem impossible... HELP PLEASE!!!

You could try an "illegal" site such as katz.cd, where you can download full albums, something like Now 72, i imagine would be what you're looking for? You can find that here.

http://music.katz.cd/download/3020226/Music/VA-Now-Thats-What-I-Call-Music-72-2009/

Otherwise search the site.

You could also download limewire http://limewire.com (get the free version) and search for individual tracks using that software, and obtain the music through that. (Again breaking the law.)

I know of no legal means of getting music that a 6 year old girl would like. Although i'm sure one of the more avid collectors of pop can probably show you the way. Smiley

What do you mean a format that can be saved? What are you trying to download? I'm not overly clear if you're having issues downloading music files or burning them to cd.

I would have thought the easiest method would be to get the tracks using itunes and burn a cd using itunes (as you must be familiar with itunes)?

Ideally I'd like to burn a cd so it can be played on her own cd player (Disney bollocks with no input jacks). On the site that I use at the inlaws they drag the music into a new file and then either burn it or stick it on their ipod. I would have never had a problem with paying for the music apart from the fact that compared to these sites (such as mininova.org) it is more difficult to use and near impossible to find the music you want.

You will need to download the music and save it somewhere on your hard drive. 'My Music' in 'My Documents' is an obvious place.

Then open windows media player and press F3 and then enter when the menu window opens. This will look through your folders and add music to your library.

Once that is done, still in windows media player, press ctrl+N and this will create a new playlist. You can then drag the songs you want from your library to the playlist panel on the right hand side. Once the playlist is created, click on the 'Burn' tab, insert a balnk cd and it will create the cd for you.

Hope that helps, if you want to use itunes it will work there also. If you get stuck, google 'burn cd with windows media player' [or itunes] and there will be loads of guides, possibly with screenshots to help you.
