I remember him mentioning Calderwood in one article, but given he's name-dropped half the cunting country I'm not reading much into anything yet.

I've had a hunch there has been some talking going on behind the scenes between Forest, Calderwood and Fitton as the chances are Calderwood that will go sooner rather than later and him coming to Swindon works well for everyone.

Calderwood knows his time at Forest is limited and I'm sure he would prefer to walk straight in to another job. Forest would get out of paying compensation (or a lot less) if they can offload him straight to another club. Fitton will be sniffing round him as he's got at least an ok record as manager plus it would be a popular appointment for a lot of Swindon fans.

Makes sense.  Last year, I'd have said our chances of signing him up were nil...but it's certainly a possibility now.  Track record of winning promotion from our division (albeit with more resources than we have.)  Could work.

No chance, we need a manager now, Calderwood would not leave Forest to drop down a level, he isn't a quiter either, and if he was sacked tomorrow (which he won't be) managers usually don't like to take another job until they have been paid up, and I don't think Fitton wants to hang around.

I'd say there was more chance of Ling coming here than Calderwood, but I don't think Orient would want him to leave anyway and would want decent compo for him, there sin't any other manager out there with ties to Swindon that the fan's wouldn't be bothered about.

So it will be a manager that is currently out of work probably 1 of Davies (would he turn down stfc if it was offered and risk not getting the forest job ?), Pardew & Dowie

Ling's contract runs out in 6 months so Orient cannot claim a lot of compo unless he signs a new deal. Needless to say there are better options out there that are out of work at the moment anyway.

I think it's plausible. The following comments are not me saying this rumour, that DRS has mused, is true but anyway... am I among (the probably) small group that's really not bothered by a former player like Calderwood being installed as manager?

I just don't suscribe to the "he was a good player but he shouldn't be a manager here" idealogy.

Colin Calderwood left us in 1993, 15 long years ago. Since then he's become a football manager and low and behold we need one, so if he was sacked from Forest then of course we should talk to him if he wanted to have a chat.

We can argue long and hard about  as to whether managerial Calderwood's career has been successful or why he shouldn't come back

Yes, he spent money at Northampton with the target of getting out of League Two, but he spent what he was budgeted.

Then onto Nottingham Forest, a team with the highest expectations... and he got them out of League One and achieved this within the budget given to him and even managed to wind up Bristol City fans along the way (although that was the year they didn't go up).

Football is so much different from the time when Calderwood led Swindon out. Some fans would possibly come back, most fans will give him immediate respect... What happens after that is unknown - but it's the same risk as any manager coming in.

I'm not saying that we must appoint a former player but I'm not saying it should be rubbished either.

Calderwood has been walking a tight rope for a while now, I can't see him staying there much longer unless they go on a winning streak. If they're still in the relegation zone come the end of December he'll be gone. I reckon he could could easily go any day now as well - Forest might be lining up the next manager already.

Keane ain't going to happen and I never suggested it would. But he is acting weird - there is that stupid beard he's grown, he hasn't complained about a referee in months, appears to be on tranquillisers when interviewed and has pretty much suggested he is going to get the sack soon. I can see him doing something random, just not Swindon.

Whereas Calderwood could happen and would make sense for all parties (him, Forest, Swindon). The bizarre thing is that he seems to have the support of the fans at present, most of whom wanted him sacked last season even when they were in the promotion spots.

If we're in fantasy land though I'd go for Keane, as I think things would be more fun with him in charge.
