so its an english team then isn't it I thought Mercedes owned a significant number of shares and so may influence driver selection, might be wrong. But yes the team is technically British. In an uninteresting link, a guy I went to uni with works for them, he's now part of the team in charge of the common ECU teams have to use next season. |

Sorry to piss on the German's parade, but originally the Mercedes engine was developed and built by Ilmor, a British company founded by Mario Illien in 1984. Mercedes do now own the entire company (as of 2005), now known as Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines Ltd. Still based in Northants, and I think that is where the F1 engine is manufactured. So, German owned but British built.  |
