  I think the answer to your question Nev, lies in the fact that German cheese is called Swiss cheese....the  cheese eating, clock making neutralists of Switzerland hoped to stave off annexation  by willingly surrendering their cheese, as an act of appeasement...and even in some cases collaberation.
