"Nineteen South Korean Christian aid workers freed by the Taleban after six weeks in captivity have apologised to the nation for the trouble they caused."

"Their release was negotiated by South Korean officials, who had face-to-face meetings with the Taleban this week.

Ransom allegations have been made by a number of Afghan officials.

A Taleban representative in Ghazni province, where the hostages were held, told the BBC the South Korean government paid $20m (£10m) but two other Taleban sources told the BBC no ransom was paid.

There are strong indications that money was paid, correspondents say, although the sum is likely to have been considerably lower - Afghan officials have said a sum slightly under $1m (£500,000) was handed over.

South Korea has denied the claims.

The BBC's Alastair Leithead, in Kabul, says the Taleban appear to have succeeded in this case - getting away with a kidnap and having their demands met.

There are now heightened fears that more kidnappings will follow, our correspondent says. "

For so many years our hostages, along with hostages from many another countries have been tortured and/or murdered due to their governments having strict policies of NOT NEGOTIATING with terrorists, and rightly so.

Well done S. Korea, encourage them to do it again why don't you!!!

Rule Number 1.

Don't meet kidnapper's demands, no matter what is at stake.

Rule Number 2.

Don't visit a country that kidnaps.

Rule Number 3.

Shoot/bomb/maim/skewer/eat the kidnapping fuckers anyway.

To be fair, there has been speculation in the past that both French and Italian governments have possibly paid ransoms to secure release of hostages.

To be fair what has pissed me off more than hearing about this is.

Before our "liberation" of Afghanistan opium production levels were at an all time low.  Now thanks to the glorious western forces Opium productions are now back at record levels.

Great news for the average western junkie, your heroin will be on the streets at decent prices, in the near future.

Hang on - £10m ransom paid. Our "new unnamed" investors delaying the takeover. 2+2 = 4. We're Osama's red and white army.
