I have heard from a friend about stopping my mortgage with my provider if i was to move out and not live there. Can they stop the mortgage so my payments stop etc with the understanding that it will all be paid off very shortly?

can anyone shed any light on this before i speak to them

I would enquire about payment holiday magic.Chances are if you dont have this then they may offer you a chance to change to interest only for a few months.

Problem with them allowing you to not make payments for a few months is that is will show as a missed payment on the mortgage history

Ring abbey and see about the holiday option

cheers Macca,

i'm already paying the basic monthly payment of £350 (so it doesn't affect my credit score) but i want to get a flat so the money could be spent on that.

i'll try the payment holidays etc but i'm not sure about changing rates cos i'm still in a fixed rate for another 2 years. which they've informed me they will charge £1800 when i pay the mortgage back even though i've tried to explain i'm getting divorced etc etc

Early redemption fee...not a lot you can do about that unfortunately.
