Looks like it's re-installation of Windows time. Corrupt file stopping start up and the recovery console is playing Silly Buggers, saying I've set an admin password when I quite clearly haven't (probably - and I've tried anything I would have set it at).

Luckily I've got pretty much all my films, music, tv programs, cd images, etc on other drives and partitions. Something I'd recommend people doing.

Still got to face reinstalling all the programs you take for granted. Firefox, Winamp (which is getting a bit bloated now a days), VLC. Actually that's probably about it. Woot.

Just working myself up to press the go button.

FB - there is a util somewhere that lets you make a boot disc for XP which you can use to reset the admin password, even if you don't know it.

Check this shit

Managed to coax it into working. Sure I didn't have the admin password problem last time though.

Cheers for the link Bo, I'll have a butchers for future reference.

On the subjects of pc's... i opened a download link that damn 'redunderthebed' posted... pc froze..  then the next time i turned on, it wouldnt even come up with the windows xp loading screen. This has happened a few times since on startup. May just be a coincidence, but its the only thing I can think of I did that day download wise. The only site I had been on that whole day was the TEF. strange. Anyone else had this problem who used one of his links??

Tidied up the cables and fitted the other fan I had inside the case. Went to boot and I get my beloved "1d" error on the LED which I had originally.

Basically the memory doesn't like to sit very tight in the memory slots. Knowing that EVGA will happily replace my motherboard (as they've had so many issues with it) I got a bit forceful with the ram and it made a lovely crunching sound as it went into place. Although that made it work  Cheesy

I'll be off to bed to sleep off my man flu, which is what I should have been doing all day really
