The Adver's "vision" for 2017:

Quote
Speedway has taken over the town's top spectator sport as Swindon Town Football Club languishes in a low division.

Few people can be lured to the mouldering County Ground to watch a team defeated as much by wrangles over how and where to put up a new stadium as by their opposition.

The speedway has drawn fans from the new housing built to the east of the A419.

Thats utter bullshit. I was a regular at Swindon Speedway in the 70's and 80's, and their average crowd was around 2000 per match. Crowds have significantly reduced over the years, maybe only increasing in the last two years thanks to the club being in the speedway equivalent of the premiership.

Its like trying to compare apples and oranges frankly and lazy journalism.

isn't this because they are planning on building on the speedway stadium ? probably trying to drum up a bit of support, which i don't begrudge them used to enjoy going up there and it would be a shame to see it go to become another faceless housing estate.
