on a serious note, ireland really is a great place to visit. i've only been to the south coast around waterford but the people are genuinely friendly, the weather's a little less british and the beer is bang on.

don't worry, once stfc goes down the pan i'll be moving there!

Need a hand with packing?

Do I have to be serious too? OK then, I agree with sonic, its a lovely place. Went for a week in July a few years back - it rained, constantly. But don't let that put you off. We travelled all across the south from Rosslaire to Kilkenny, drove the wrong way around the Ring of Kerry (I didn't fucking know there was a right way?), went swimming with dolphins in Dingle Way (well one dolphin, and he's not in captivity) and got so thoroughly pissed in Dublin that I proposed to my now wife  :?

There was a scheme that lets you stay in peoples houses which we did, pretty cheaply. All really nice places, and you get to meet the locals first hand, and if you are really lucky, get invited to all night lock-ins down the local. Stayed in a castle one night, the works!

Just trying to stereo type them all here, but to describe them all as dogmatic bigots is fitting in my arrogant opinion. Although they are a friendly bunch and like their drink so there are some positives. Cool

Being away from the UK for a bit when I come back to visit it sends a shiver down my spine. The place has very much gone to the dogs. Not sure whether I can stand to spend the rest of my life there.

Reminds me:

Beneath the old iron bridges
Across the Victorian parks
And all the frightened people
Running home before dark
Past the Saturday morning cinema
That lies crumbling to the ground
And the piss stinking shopping centre
In the new side of town

I've come to smell the seasons change
And watch the city as the sun goes down again

Here comes another winter
Of long shadows and high hopes
Here comes another winter
Waitin' for Utopia
Waitin' for hell to freeze over

This is the land where nothing changes
The land of red buses and blue blooded babies
This is the place where pensioners are raped
And the hearts are being cut from the welfare state
Let the poor drink the milk
While the rich eat the honey
Let the bums count their blessings
While they count the money

So many people can't express what's on their minds
Nobody knows them, nobody ever will
Until their backs are broken, their dreams are stolen
And they can't get what they want
Then they're gonna get angry
Well, it ain't written in the papers
But it's written on the walls
The way this country's dividing to fall
So the cranes are moving on the skyline
Tryin' to knock down ... this town
But the stains on the heartland
Can never be removed
From this country that's sick, sad and confused

Here comes another winter
Of long shadows and high hopes
Here comes another winter
Waitin' for Utopia
Waitin' for hell to freeze over

The ammunition's been passed
And the Lord's been praised
But the wars on the televisions
Will never be explained
All the bankers gettin' sweaty
Beneath their white collars
As the pound in our pocket
Turns into a dollar

Haven't been for a long time, but I seem to remember it as a very nice, friendly place. The influx of migrant workers obviously puts some people off as it takes away from the....errr....Irish-ness, but still a really nice place.

And because they are needing to import labour, you can earn decent money out there in a skilled job or a profession!
