for a friend at work.

Got Windows XP and NTL Broadband.

Connections etc are fine and she can access any website. When she comes to pages where she has to confirm stuff (for example E-Bay where she goes to bid; on here if she was to post a message etc) she then gets the page up with "This page cannot be displayed" and loads of writing. It's only on pages where she's entering stuff (also her internet banking).

Anyone got any ideas what that could be. I wondered if her security settings are too high; but wasn't sure if it would be that simple.

IE works ok for me although I'd heard Firefox was better.

I'll see if the info Dazzza gave me works first for my friend; if not I'll try Firefox thanks.

It's a known NTL problem, I think you have to set up the proxy settings in the options in Internet Explorer.

213.105.224.17 port 8080

That one might work, if not google ebay ntl problems and there's loads of threads on tech forums going around. I think there was one or two on this forum where I advised people too, but I can't remember.

Doh

I realised my mod powers allow me to look at you IP address so I just looked at where your last posts have come from. I'll PM you the address and then you can try that. Just go to connection settings on IE options and then LAN settings and it's in there. If the problem continues then it's probably not the right solution.

What a nightmare; I could never go back to dial up; I know you're not using it from choice though.

The slowness would drive me mad.
