Ex Hearts chairman died of cancer today. He was chairman of Hearts way before my time but in 1990 he did the unthinkable and tried to merge Hearts and Hibs, effectively killing of Hibs. Clearly, the Hibs fans were not having this and managed to fight off any takeover/merger. Since then, Mercer is public enemy no 1 for Hibs fans and many are pleased he has popped his clogs.

So, you'd think that Hearts would have a minutes silence/black armband treatment at their next home game? Well, as luck would have it, the next home game is against Hibs on 28th January!! Have a feeling that the trouble at saturday's game at Gillingham will be a picnic compared to the 28th! :roll:

I'd forgotten about that proposed merger till reading about it again today.

Don't remember much about it now but how he ever thought that was a starter is beyond me.
