the women at work, who repairs iPhones, didn't really rate rice either. Hence the silica gel suggestion.

That would've been my first choice had I had any silica gel to hand.

Oh well, not too fussed, wiffy's just ordered a new phone anyway so will just nick her old one.
If I can get this repaired for around £20 then i'll keep it as a spare.

I used rice a couple of months ago when dropped my Samsung in the bath. Didn't attempt to switch on,charge or do anything.  Just buried it in rice. Works a treat still. Wasn't submerged for long tho so

I'm not sure that one test proves it's all bullshit, 100g of rice? Whilst I consider myself an empiricist I think you're just looking at a stick to beat verbose Chang with, TBH.

Just one example though of why you should always keep those little silica packs!

Prove those phones that worked after being in rice, wouldn't have worked anyway

I've done the rice thing with a Samsung after dropping it in the River Ray and it sort of came back to life  but wasn't quite right so I bunged it in a draw got another crappy phone,which I broke after about 1 month ,tried the River damaged one again on the off chance and it worked perfectly!
Not sure what this proves..or how it helps

You can buy scented dehumidifier things from B&m for a pound which are basically big tubs of Scilica gel
