Got this off the BBC .. just wanted to say WELL DONE PAUL on getting the job .. He used to be a pal of mine  .. same age and went tg Highworth school as I did .. was a fantastic coach when he helped me with coaching the Under 10s and 11s  -- STRICT like his dad yet with a more human side to him - I think he will do well - I hope so even if it is with Brizzle Rovers!!

Trollope looks forward to a new phase of his career
Bristol Rovers have confirmed that midfielder Paul Trollope has been given a player-coach role at the club.
Boss Ian Atkins has been searching for some assistance since losing assistant manager Kevan Broadhurst in the summer.

Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol: "It's a great club to start my education in coaching and is a great opportunity.

"I did my UEFA-B coaching badge last year and I have already been taking some extra training with some of the younger lads," added the 33-year-old

I'm quite happy I was the one who broke this news to his sister.  I also told her about her old man was at teh reserve match, even though she was adamant that he wasn't.  A quick call to her mum and she came back to say he was at the match.

I might stop keeping her informed now though as she may think I'm a stalker.

She did tell me that Paul once puked up during a game for Rovers last season, on the half way line, during a match.  Nice.

I feel like I should let her know that someone is paying her and her family such a compliment, but I think she'd reply by getting a restraining order put upon me. Wink

When John Trollope was still a Swindon player, I had the pleasure of meeting him during an open day.  He looked about average height when on the field with Thomas, Burrows, and Harland (what a back four!), but in person he was built like Henry Cooper.  John was quietly spoken, friendly and very unassuming.

Make no mistake, John was one of the best left backs in English football in his prime, and would have walked into many top sides.  For years he was shown during the opening credits of Match of the Day, upending the late Billy Bremner, while playing the ball.  I remember the "Trollope Whallop" on Steve Coppell, straight after the kick off, shortly before he joined Manchester United from Tranmere Rovers.  John kept the soon to be England winger absolutely quiet.  I seem to remember he scored an absolute screamer of a goal against Watford, and used to whip in crosses better than most wingers.

I recall JT as a clean player.....but was watching the highlights of 69 a while back and fairly early he cleaned out a gunner with a knee high tackle from behind, when said player who's name escapes was running  clear....in todays game it would have been a certain yellow/ marginal red.....then a free kick but not even a word from the ref.

John was quarried, not born.  He was a right wingers worst nightmare.  I hope he skewered Gould.  Was Geordie Armstrong on the right for Arsenal?
