as a new forum member am surprised there are few archive topics. have followed swindon since the sixties and would welcome a thread relating to this era.was anyone on this forum there? (i know if you were really there you dont remember it ha ha]who recalls peter noble, and why was joe butler more popular in the town end than don rogers?

Slinky's welcome is a genuine TEF welcome, Droogie
It only seems like yesterday that I climbed the unsteady steps up to the Shrivenham Road stand and was in awe of the young Don. Regular crowds in the high teens then, magic
By the time I graduated to the TE as a teen in the early 70s, Little Joe was gone. Never knew that he was more popular than the Don...he did get his shorts dirty, tis true, but that wasn't difficult.

yeah dons shorts.pristine.maybe it was the love of work rate over skill.same old. best memory was first game of season 72 he curled in free kick and beat four players to set up steve peplow in 2-2 draw.town end was lively that day.

1968 for me...guess thats not too bad! And whilst Don was the master, Joe Butler was always a favourite of mine.
