That'll put pressure on Souness already, and I think that kills any ideas of Owen moving to Newcastle now there's no European competition.

Newcastle were out of Europe when they finished 14th last season.

Think they are on the tilt.

Souness just doesn't seem to be the right man for the job and trying to sign Anelka after all the crap over the past couple of seasons is just asking for trouble.

Anelka & Souness as well can't think of a better recepie for disaster.

I know Reg, but people are expecting Newcastle to do better this season (not hard I suppose) and the result doesn't help.

Saying that, Deportivo have done well in Spain in the past few years if memory serves me right so it wasn't the easiest of ties for them.

Nice to see Milner score as well.

Souness is quite correct to point out that to go through the Inter Toto...UEFA Cup route , you will end playing about a dozen games against modest Euro opposition, which can only cause problems for the league campaign.

At least losing to Depor is a creditable opponent.....rather than some Norwegian outfit.

Sums up to me Newcastle last season, and Dazzza's right. Get rid of Bellamy and bring in Analka, you're bringing the trouble on.
