Oh fountain of knowledge that is the TEF ..................

My pride and joy TV has decided to die and before I banish it to the great skip in the sky, I was wondering if any of you nice folk knew of anyone who could come out and give me a free estimate to repair it, in order for me to make a judgment call

Many thanks

Love

Don't know anyone that will come out for free but i once had my television die on me and i took it to Bugdens on county road and it was something like £40 to find out the damage and £110 to fix so a total of £150 so if its a good tele i would go there as its better to spend a couple of hundred to fix than a fortune on a new one. This was three years back and the tv still going strong.

Burdens.

Where did you buy it from.

My TV died in October less than 2 years after I bought it from Burdens - it was going to cost around £400 to fix - after a bit of complaining and name dropping in the end it cost me £0.

A TV shouldn't die after 2 years and you shouldn't have to pay to sort it out, regardless of the warranty. Have you got proof of purchase? Take it back to the retailer and/or contact the manufacturer.

Agreed, Sales of Goods Act 1979, although Fred's dispute would be with the retailer not the manufacturer.

If the TV is less than 6 years old and you can provide proof of purchase, Fred, you've got a chance of getting something back.

I thought Burdens gave long guarantees on their tv's anyway?

For Fred's problem i'd contact the place where the tv was purchased first,as the big retailers have their own repair services. Might get it cheap-free if you moan enough?

The TV is nearly 7 years old and bought from Tesco's subsidised by a shed load of Clubcard points.

Naturally, the 10 year old sales assistant when I went in yesterday was about as useful as tits on a fish.

Got GenServe coming out tomorrow to give a quote etc before I decide whether I need to get the hammer out  Cheesy

I suggest you bin it and get yourself a panasonic then.
The way tv's have come down in price, an upgrade rather than a repair i think would be better.

My thoughts too

This one was £850 when I bought it

Just think what I could get for that now
