Have downloaded a few films for little one and have been watching them via windows media player but 1 or 2 of them appear to have no sound.

After a quick google search it seems i do not have the correct Audio codecs installed.Does this sound right?

I am happy to keep just watching them via Windows but do any of you kind people know the best thing to istall that is safe and easy to use

This should do the trick. However you would be better off using VLC media player will play it without the need of codecs probably

Do what Dave says, download VLC player that will play a good 99% of all codecs and is safe.

VLC is a piece of piss to set up - download and run the file, click on the wizardy bits and you're sorted.

Another good codec pack is http://www.cccp-project.net/

Media Player Classic is also a very good media player.  Will play pretty much anything you throw at it without the need for extra codecs which can contain things you don't really want to be installing.
