Need a bit of advice - a colleague of mine asked me what this game was like.  He was thinking of buying it for his football-mad 11 year old.  Is it too slow - like a proper management game - or is it suitable for an 11 year old?  Any thoughts gratefully received.

From what I know, it has a fancy looking but not very realistic match engine. So you can watch the players in better graphics than say Football Manager. Its a normal sort of management game other than that, again with less detail than Football Manager.

Maybe get one of the earlier versions first to see if he likes it? Probably get a copy off ebay for very little.

I worked on one of them a few years back but never actually played it. As a rule the series are ok but simplified management games. The key - and I'm guessing it is a console version you are talking about - is the menu system. On console these things can make the games horrible compared to pc versions. Look for some decent online reviews - ign, eurogamer, gamesradar should give you some ideas along with meteoritic for scores - but these are distorted by unreliable bloggers.
