I've just popped this on youtube, found it on a dvd i have, it's from August 1970 between Swindon and Sunderland when the goalposts broke.

I'm pretty sure Reg has mentioned this before, maybe he was there?

Yeah that was the Stratton Bank.

I was there,

We'd just signed a little midfielder called Tony Gough (can't remember where from), and he'd looked reasonable, but he had a good 10-15 minute rest while repairs were made to the goal. Happened latish in the second half if I recall correctly.

Those were the levels of crowds we were getting at that stage

This game was also noted for the Town being the main commentary game on
BBC Radio 2 (later to become FiveLive).

The commentator on here is Hugh Johns and it was the main game on ITV Midlands (ATV)
Star Soccer, on a sunday afternoon.

Gough we got from Bath City...he'd been there for years, having only previously played 1 league game for Wovers in 1958.  The punt was based on Tony Book having been in non league for years, getting a chance in his early 30's and going onto great things....Gough went on to Torquay after half a season.

Gough had a decent game that day-sort of a poor man's John Smith.
