Chelsea have had their transfer ban lifted after reaching an agreement with Lens. Both clubs and the player have all agreed that there was no contract between the player and Lens so Chelsea didn't do anything wrong. But out of the goodness of their heart Chelsea have agreed to make a payment to Lens to cover the players training costs, the amount of which remains confidential. But I'd say its safe to assume they are the highest training costs on record.

It makes you wonder what the point is when a club can break the rules, get given a punishment and then buy themselves out of the hole at the last minute before the punishment starts. No much of a deterrent is it.

Now if it was any team outside of the top 2 leagues there would probably be a points deduction involved. Digusting.

So did I. But surely everyone knows by now that football regulations only apply to the "little clubs"? And even then only when it suits the authorities and they can be arsed to apply them

Surely if Lens are happy then what's the problem? if it wasn't enough money, they could still carry on the fight and Chelsea would still be banned from buying players.

I think this is a bit different as having been found guilty they effectively bought themselves out of it.

But the other problem with this is clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd being able to sign 16 year olds from foreign clubs without having to pay a penny for them, due to the loopholes in the rules. Imagine if Real Madrid came along and took Henshall from us without having to pay anything - our big clubs do it all the time.

Arsenal practically invented this. Fabregas being case in point, nicked from Barcelona as a 15 year old.
