I think that by having a drink yourself but not allowing your kids to you sort of glamourise the idea - a bit like staying up late.  Tell them they can't do it and they'll think they are missing out on something big.  By letting them have one, you take thataway and make it seem like no big deal.

Who's to say other than you when your kid is old enough or responsible enough to have a drink, Leefer? What we do in this regard with our kids in our own houses is up to us, surely?

I don't give a fuck what the law says, kids should be able have a glass of wine or a small beer if they want one as they mature and move into adulthood. A kid that's used to a tipple now and then is far less likely to go pissing it up on the snide, IMHO.

Sounds like TT has it about right with his family Wink

The law says it...not me,as for a kid having the odd tipple being used to a drink...well thats your opinion.....so is it right to give your kids the odd white line, you know just to take the glamour away....would that make them more unlikely not to get into trouble with drugs?....whats the difference...none of course, ime not saying a beer with your lad or a glass of wine with your daughter is wrong...what i am saying is i wouldnt want and didnt have my kids drinking at friends houses at 14....and certainly wouldnt have given it to there friends at my house.....read all the posts before making general remarks.

I buy booze for my under aged children if they ask me (for parties or friends coming round etc). Which they have done now and again in the past. No problem. I have allowed them all alcohol for years as I would rather they were exposed to, and feel comfortable with it rather than asking some fucking weird forum posting passer by to get it for them.

We went to Greece a few years back and my eldest lad was 14. His big moment was going off to the bar on the ferry after we had just woken up and buying himself a bottle of Heineken with no questions asked. He drank it slowly of his own accord. A very proud moment for me.

This was the post i was refering to...not clever i feel....obviously you disagree delta.
