I need a good motor racing game for my ps2 - and yes, I am still on a ps2.  I wanted an F1 game but there doesn't seem to be one beyond 2006.  Any alternative suggestions?

In Pro Evo turn off the setting which makes it automatically change to the player nearest the ball, then race you players up and down the half way line. Hours of multiplayer fun.

But nah. Racing games are shit. Apart from Mario Kart. And Pole Position. And Outrun. It's one of those video game genres where people forget that realism != fun.

Perhaps one of the Gran Turismo series - probably 4 or if you want something a little more fun, the TOCA Race Driver 3 was pretty good to and I think there were some open wheeler racing in both - if not F1 itself.

Both were also far better games than any of the EA or Sony F1 titles, which despite being good sellers where never really up to much.

F1 2006 isn't that bad. I'd go with toca3 though

Has to be ToCA 3 - it has the two greatest motor racing series in the world - DTM and V8 Supercars, and the some of the best tracks in the world - Norisring, Bathurst, Adelaide, Donnington, Surfer's Paradise, Silverstone National, Brands Hatch Indy etc, etc.

It's a shame they didn't stick to their roots though and  purely concentrate on the touring car discipline. It would've been my dream game if they'd have done away with GT, single seaters, rally etc, and included touring car seasons from the last 15-20 years, like the old ITC and super touring era championships instead. Maybe some of the Super2000 regs series, like the WTCC and the new BTCC. Alas, this obviously wouldn't have sold as many games.

Anyway, my suggestion is ToCA 3.

If it's possible I suggest you save for a PS3 as well. Later this years sees the new Formula 1 game and also (fingers crossed) GT5. Should be good on the racing front.

Thanks all - am going for Toca 3. I will however be buying a ps3.  Only because I've just heard that they are doing The Beatles: Rock Band.  This will be the best thing ever to happen outside of STFC.
