Why?
It's the non-league, not league 3 (or division 5). One up plus a play off place is more than adequate.
It always seems that it creates a back log of teams which are good enough to be in the football leauge at the top of the conference, and financially failing or stale clubs sitting at the bottom of the football league surviving longer than they should.
The teams which have come up in recent years tend to do pretty well. Whilst the only team coming back up pretty easily is Carlisle (off the top of my head).
I suppose it's not the biggest deal in football at the moment and it's better now that it's two not one like it was before.
The football league argument seems a bit of a nothing one now, especially since the premier league broke off. It's not like there's a definite line of part time / full time going between the conference and league two, so the whole thing seems like a bit of an artificial construct. I suppose the main thing is that I like the idea of a smooth a football league pyramid as possible. Where generally teams that can cope with the level above them will get to play there sooner rather than later, while teams who can't going in the opposite direction.
