Even if this one is true. I guarantee that rumours like this will start entering the world of rubbish "send this to loads of people" classic email spam.
I'd guess that the best deciding factor is how precise the email content is on dates. If it's vague stuff like "last week", then I'd guess it's bollocks.
I reiterate that I'm not saying this one isn't true. I know fuck all about such things. But I'm pretty certain this will enter the email spam rounds.

Is it just debit and credit cards, or will big standard cash cards be at risk too?

Snopes is an excellent website, but I'm not sure they bother with this sort of localised spam. Sorry. I'm starting to sound like someone who's just disagreeing with everybody for the sake of it. I didn't mean it that way. I was just making an observation like prediction. It's not unfair to say that the majority of people who work at a job in Swindon where they have email will have heard about this by now. Even if this one is true, then it's only a matter of time before someone thinks it's a great laugh to start email scare story email rumours. I guess what I'm getting is that you should never trust anything told to you in forwarded emails. Unless you have some seriously good first hand evidence that it's true. Better than "my mate told me aswell", you're mate probably got the same email.

But you always get the "if you dial a 9 while talking to someone and put a foot in a bucket it'll cost you a squillion pounds on you phone bill" And you always get about 3 numpties forwarding it to you.

I have also received emails with the same warning, along with a copy of the original from a Natasha Murphy, Special Investigations Department who apparently originated the e-mails!! Perhaps she is the one currently suspended from Nationwide, although to be fair there is no Nationwide header onit or anything similar!!

Stop sniffing the bike saddle, Ron I got that e-mail at work and there was a portion of disclaimer text at the end from BCS (British Computer Society) so it probably did not originate from that lass.

Surely if someone in a position to know there had actually been skimming devices in these places had sent the email, they'd also be in a position to ensure said devices were removed? I can hardly see the banks/coppers/whoever would think "Hmm, we know there's skimmers in cash machines XYZ we'd better send round a warning email but leave the devices in place?" Or have I missed the point?

I thought the point was probably more along the lines of letting people know it had been done so they could check balances andcancel cards if necessary.
