Rapists....how can there be such a thing in todays society, know its a heavy subject but was readind saturdays adver about a so called man from Chipenham who had a string of convictions for violent sex attacks and rapes yet his sentences were so leniant he was in and out of prison constantly re offending,in my opinion if you get caught a second time on rape or sex offences you should be locked up for life...it pisses me off how there can be a serial re offender, when will our judges realise that normal peole deserve to be protected from scum like this.

We also have to remember there's not the capacity in jail. Our justice system is fair, it's just that the prison netwrok is too crowded to cope with masses of long sentences.

Does anyone remember that american army twat, who came over the uk to meet with some 14 year old girl ro something?

Well, he got 3 years in the UK. When we deport him to the US at the end of his sentence, the US will imprison him for child abuse for between 10 and 40 years. I think that's good, and if our jails could cope it should be encouraged, however, it doesn't change my opinion that the American "justice system" is laughable at best.

I'm willing to pay higher tax on stuff for more schools, hospitals, higher job seekers, pretty much anything. But not for more prisons.

The continuously locking people away for longer and longer at greater expense clearly doesn't work. Surely finding a way to cut down on re-offending rates is a much better option.

Depends on how you look at it I suppose. Prison clearly doesn't work as a deterrent, and never will do however basic you make the facilities. Re-offending rates are high which surely indicates that people could be doing something more constructive whilst in prison?

Personally the punishment aspect doesn't bother me. I don't care what someone's done. If it can be shown that they are unlikely to re-offend, and get on and leave a constructive life then let them out. Don't give a shit what they've done.

i think its fair to say that 80s and 90s offenders treatment programmes were pretty piss-poor. they have not improved beyond belief but they are making progress.

Yeah, and more arbitrary simplistic quick fixes. Lower taxes. More coppers. Bring back the birch. And what really did happen to Diana? Eh? Eh? I had that Boris Johnson in the cab once
