I love all the custard concerns. But to address all points.

1. It was a fruit (raspberry) and sponge trifle. With alcohol of course (but I forget what exactly...).

2. The custard was imported from the UK, and the 63p was clearly marked around the rim of the tin.

3. I wouldn't have got it in time if I'd purchased it in the UK.

4. Don't even talk about packet mixes. Everything is hand made in Chez Coxy's kitchen. Apart from the custard itself, that went wrong last time...

5. I was under strict instructions not to buy that powdered crap (which incidentally was equally as expensive...)

6. They do have dodgy shops in Ohio. I can buy tyres with my groceries. Its ace!

I'm a year ahead of you! $118 for my first UK tank of 'gas'! Haven't worn sunglasses since I arrived back - Haven't seen a cloudless sky either. H0-hum!

Well, you'll be back soon enough and then you can rediscover all of the British epicurian delights at normal prices. Suspect things work the same for you as me - a 33% pay cut to come home to was rather unwelcome! (As was having 'a lot' of dollars that I didn't want to lose approx 20% in value in changing back to pounds)
