Why did they have a sign on the door saying "door", surely this is generally pretty obvious, pretty sure most doors don't have that.

I imagine that other things inside said classroom are also labled in French in order to assist pupils in their French learning.

It may be the same in a room where German is taught too.

I have doubts that they follow the same idea in purely english speaking classes though - that seems pointless...
