In all seriousness, having a mate who's a mechanic is something everyone should have. Saved me loads of dosh over the years.

(an electrician, plumber and lawyer who are mates are also a bit handy too)

Main Dealer quoted me £170 parts and labour for the cambelt which I thought was steep but you've no choice really, if it snaps you're in deep doo doo.

Then whilst my car is on the ramps with it's guts hanging out they ring me and say, "Your tensioners are knackered and your water pump's leaking, and... and... and it'll be cheaper to have it done now while it's all in bits."

Result - bill for £465

And when you get your car back you can't even tell if they've lifted the bonnet let alone changed any parts.

BASTARDS !!!!

The garage my folks used to go to put the replaced parts in a bag so at least you knew they'd done something.  I'm pretty wary of garages and what they sting you for, thankfully my car has 18 months of a 5 year warranty left
