We had a bigger gate than all matches in league one yesterday apart from 3.

There was 7000 for Northampton vs Forest
There was 7700 For Bradford vs Gillingham
There was 10k   For Huddersfield vs City

As for our league well, Walsall came closest with 5700!

Cos most people work saturdays these days, nobody works at night unless your Yeovil Red or a hooker.

Tuesday was the first home game of the season. Everybody wanted to be there. Then a proportion of them wouldn't have the cash to go again a few days later.

When we have two home games in a row inside a week the attendance always suffers.

I'm guessing Rochdale probably didn't bring many either?

Rochdale bought about 200 max.

When we play better quality teams such as Wycombe and The Gas, and there is no mid week game, we'll be getting an 8000 average gate.

A couple of statistics just to get things in perspective:

On Tuesday night, Colchester, for their first ever game at Championship level only got about 4,200!!!! (Capacity is in the region of 6,000)

Accrington Stanley for their long awaited return to the football league only got 2,700 from a capacity of 5,000.

Yesterday against Barnet, they only got 1,600 FFS! Their Chairman was on the ITV highlights programme this morning and he was 'devastated' to use his words, at the low turnout.

I will admit that I was a bit surprised that the crowd was lower than on Tuesday but I am sure that as long as the boys keep doing the business on the pitch, the attendances will go up because people WILL go and watch a winning side.

When you consider the examples mentioned above, I don't think we're doing too badly really.

No great mystery - a lot of people went on holiday this weekend so the end of their fortnight's holiday would coincide with the Bank Holiday, thereby getting the extra day. Loads of people do that.

But whatever the reason, hands up all those who'd have predicted an average gate of over 7,000 for the first two home games in the basement back in April? (When sober) Christ, we'd have been well chuffed with that for most games in League One for the past five years. And like OST says once people perceive this is a winning side that's going places, the gates will start to climb steadily.

If Dennis pulls a shirt on, you won't be able to spit down the CG without hitting some armchair no-mark wondering why he can't watch instant replays of every last tackle like he can on Sky.

Sky got right up my nose today with their constant comments like, "it's great that the football season is about to start" or words to that effect.

Crowds have been better than I would have thought for the start.  As mentioned, once a run starts then extra fans start turning up.

Well one has started now, just got to home it carries on until and beyond the next home game!

A win against Brentford would do a lot to pull in extra fans too I am sure
