What happened to Steve Finney's carreer when he left us? One of those drunken wonderings.

Also what happened to Steve Cowe? Got a vague memory that he ended up at newport. We could do with a litle pacey midfielder at the moment.

Steve Finney:
Quote
After signing from Manchester City, he played 47 times for Town, where he netted 18 times. After leaving Town he had spells with Cambridge, Carlisle, Leyton Orient before having an unsuccessful trial at Exeter City. He then had spells with Barrow and Chester before signing for Altrincham. After finishing as the season’s top scorer with 11 goals three years ago, he unexpectedly left the club and is now thought to have set up a school of motoring in the Wigan area.

Steve Cowe:
Quote
Originally signed from Aston Villa in March 1996, Cowe went on to make over 100 appearances before departing for a spell at Hereford United. He has since been with Newport County, Forest Green and is now with Redditch United.

...Cowe did end up at Ciren though & played in the pre-season friendly against us last summer

I thought Steve Finney was ace .. McMahon killed him off as he did so many players .. (tho the broken leg he suffered hindered him too)

Steve Co(w)e I never took to .. £100k .. what a joke that is

Finney said when he signed that if it didn't work out he'd go back to being a brickie.  Had a great season 95/96 despite being dropped everytime Thorne was fit, and then of course the leg break at Burnley where the ref told him to 'get up, he never touched you'.  I was always confident he'd put away one-on-ones.

No, 0-0 draw at Turf Moor.  Although strangely I broke my leg on the day of the Peterborough away game(2-0 Finney/Allison).

Steve Finney, what a class player he was in 95-96.

Such a shame his career didn't move on from there, although the broken leg didn't help.

I think if my memory still gets things right he scored the 3rd or 4th when we thrashed Oxford 4-1 in Dec 97, and the crowd were singing "Finney Wonderland".

Steve Cowe I thought was ok, again surprised his career tailed off after leaving us. I guess the lack of games in the later part of his career with us meant that other clubs probably were put off by that, and also didn't get a chance to see him play.
