Tom Nichols released along with some decent League Two players. I’d happily take Hiram Boateng Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Tails on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 08:04:27 It's always fun to look at these lists and watch other league two clubs sign them.
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Barrett17 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 09:01:22 https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2025/may/07/mansfield-town-confirm-retained-list/ Nichols splits opinion but I like him. I remember us 'Being after' Boateng for a while about a year back. If that was Jamie Russell then he might end up at Salford!Tom Nichols released along with some decent League Two players. I’d happily take Hiram Boateng Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: iParadise on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 09:09:05 Nichols is a good rotational player to have at the level.
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 09:56:43 It’s a no for Aden Flint from me in case it gets mentioned.
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 09:59:13 Nichols looks a far better link up player sat in the front of the midfield than as a striker/number 10, in the last 4 or 5 games playing in that role he looked excellent.
I would take him back 100%. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: iParadise on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:02:55 Christy Pym is an excellent keeper. If Ripley leaves, we should go all out for him
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:04:05 What about Alfie Kilgour, a big CB who is relatively local.
Was there captain until injury, appeared to play most of the second half of the season when he came back. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:04:38 Christy Pym is an excellent keeper. If Ripley leaves, we should go all out for him I must admit I have never been impressed with him when hes played against us, his distribution is poor and he doesnt command his area.Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: horlock07 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:04:44 It’s a no for Aden Flint from me in case it gets mentioned. No idea whether he is up to it any more being 35, so jury would be out on him coming back. But from a wiki he actually seems to have gone on to have a pretty decent career and shocked to see Middlesborough allegedly paid £7m for him..... I must admit I have never been impressed with him when hes played against us, his distribution is poor and he doesnt command his area. Sounds like a depressing shoe in for us then based on recent seasons.... Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:13:05 No idea whether he is up to it any more being 35, so jury would be out on him coming back. But from a wiki he actually seems to have gone on to have a pretty decent career and shocked to see Middlesborough allegedly paid £7m for him..... Sounds like a depressing shoe in for us then based on recent seasons.... I’ve no doubts he could probably still do a decent job for us for a season and agree he’s had a decent career but after his public outcry whilst at Bristol City he may have burnt his bridges here and not sure the fans would forgive him. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: tans on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:33:08 No chance for Flint
He wouldnt come back anyway We couldnt afford him Had a decent career at Championship level and made a few quid though! Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Matchworn Shirts on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:41:47 Had a decent career at Championship level and made a few quid though! See also; Grant Hall Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Batch on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:46:15 See also; Grant Hall He's made far more appearances than Hospit-Hall. But still no. I only made this post for the lame pun (pun intended). But I do feel sorry for any player whose body says no. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Barrett17 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:49:44 The following link is helpful in tracking newly available players. Aaron Pierre was decent at Wycombe. Legs might be gone now though!https://therealefl.co.uk/2025/05/05/efl-retained-lists-2024-25/ Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: iParadise on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:52:04 Aaron Pierre was decent at Wycombe. Legs might be gone now though! Judging by the number of appearances he's made in recent years, looks like you might be right Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 10:59:35 Aaron Pierre was decent at Wycombe. Legs might be gone now though! A player we tried to sign under Power when he was at Wycombe.Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 11:09:01 Kabongo Tshimanga released by Peterborough.
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: horlock07 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 13:00:31 Kabongo Tshimanga released by Peterborough. Be inclined to have him back, dependent on what wages he was after (and him buying some boots with studs). Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Anonymous77 on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 13:12:09 Barrow’s Released list:
Sam Barnes, Paul Farman, Ged Garner, Charlie Kirk, Mazeed Ogungbo, Dom Telford, Junior Tiensia, Theo Vassell. I’d take Theo Vassell but not sure if he’d fancy it after Smith tried taking his head of at their place. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: iParadise on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 13:39:51 Be inclined to have him back, dependent on what wages he was after (and him buying some boots with studs). Five non-penalty goals in the league isn't good enough to warrant the high wages imo Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Crozzer on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, 14:18:03 https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2025/may/07/mansfield-town-confirm-retained-list/ Tom Nichols released along with some decent League Two players. I’d happily take Hiram Boateng Louis Reed another year triggered, not bad considering he cost Mansfield a bag of crisps and a box of Smarties. That’s what I was thinking Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Tails on Thursday, May 8, 2025, 08:17:06 Could be a good shout, unless Barnet or Barrow are in for him, then we'll be priced out.
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: adje on Thursday, May 8, 2025, 08:30:21 Angus MacDonald anyone?😉
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: tans on Thursday, May 8, 2025, 08:42:28 Angus MacDonald anyone?😉 Highly doubt that with the alleged circumstances in which he left before! Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Anonymous77 on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, 16:09:53 Bradford City Released:
Callum Johnson, Gabe Wadsworth, Jamie Walker, Romoney Crichlow, Sam Stubbs & Vadaine Oliver. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Barrett17 on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 09:44:26 Bradford City Released: I know its clamouring for ex players but i'd love Crichlow back. Good Left footed CBs are harder to come by.Callum Johnson, Gabe Wadsworth, Jamie Walker, Romoney Crichlow, Sam Stubbs & Vadaine Oliver. Was decent here and just played in a promoted side for the last few months of the campaign. He'd be a good signing.Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Anonymous77 on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 10:24:42 Don’t want to sound arrogate here, but in terms of sides in L2 next season we have got to be one of the most attractive for a player. With our form in 2025 and some of the players here surely players would see a good chance at promotion. Unfortunately the off field stuff is where we are let down (again).
Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Crozzer on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 10:26:19 Was decent here and just played in a promoted side for the last few months of the campaign. He'd be a good signing. Was thinking much the same. Without promotion, I would specualte that Bradford would have offerred him a new deal. Very good at this level. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Batch on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 12:22:05 Don’t want to sound arrogate here, but in terms of sides in L2 next season we have got to be one of the most attractive for a player. You are assuming that footballers movefor football reasons and not pay/security/. I'm not saying the club is wrong to have a wage strucrure -quite the opposite. I'd be suprised if we aren't on the lower side when it comes to pay scales. That said we did get Will Wright and Harry Smith. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Peter Venkman on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 12:26:39 You are assuming that footballers movefor football reasons and not pay/security/. There must be a large element of adding a promotion to your CV and also all the added incentivised bonusses for promotion, not to mention the higher exposure in being at a successful club, especially if you have a good cup run thats televised.Just a thought :) Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Anonymous77 on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 12:32:58 You are assuming that footballers movefor football reasons and not pay/security/. Yeah agreed financial security is massive, especially at this level. However if your looking for somewhere to develop your career and be in a promotion chasing side I can’t see there being many other better options this summer in League 2. You’d like to think Prem/Champ clubs would be thinking the same when sending their players out on loan in L2.I'm not saying the club is wrong to have a wage strucrure -quite the opposite. I'd be suprised if we aren't on the lower side when it comes to pay scales. That said we did get Will Wright and Harry Smith. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: cheltred69 on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 12:41:36 On that list of Bradford releases, Sam Stubbs, CB, was on loan at Cheltenham last season, their POTS and made it into Who Scored's L2 team of season.
I know they'd love to resign him but expect others will pay more. Would be a good signing for any L2 club so doubt we'd be up there in payment terms Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: RobertT on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, 12:46:27 There must be a large element of adding a promotion to your CV and also all the added incentivised bonusses for promotion, not to mention the higher exposure in being at a successful club, especially if you have a good cup run thats televised. Just a thought :) Back in the day, Phil Smith turned down a contract to learn to become a train driver, such was the salary level for squad players at this level. Just a thought :) That's how it should work. I'll realign my views when Armeen, Bycroft and McGregor sign on. Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: horlock07 on Thursday, May 15, 2025, 09:25:36 Back in the day, Phil Smith turned down a contract to learn to become a train driver, such was the salary level for squad players at this level. I remember taking a NUFC supporting mate to a game at the CG in the late 90's and Fraser Digby drove out of the ground in a battered Vauxhall Astra, which I think was a bit of an eye opener for a PL club supporter... Title: Re: EFL Retained Lists Post by: Batch on Thursday, May 15, 2025, 11:27:52 Wasn't Chalkie selling dodgy cars to teammates at some point. Or did I make make that up?
