Title: Swindon vs Spurs U21 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Nemo on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:02:30 Not a competition anyone cares about much, but we might accidentally go through from the group stages - avoid a loss in normal time and we're probably through.
Expecting quite a strong team as we have a lot of senior players on the fringes that need minutes and everyone is fit-ish- something like Barden Hall Minturn Delaney Longelo Cain Butterworth King McGurk Glatzel Ameen Would be 10 changes and still only one youth player in the side. It shows that our squad is much deeper than in previous years, even in the top level quality isn't there. Then with Mitchell & some youngsters on the bench. I wonder if Uwakwe will make the squad? Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: reeves4england on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:04:40 First time we've ever had a thread for an under-11s fixture.
Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:05:13 Ollie said on Saturday he is looking to draft 2 of the kids into the match squad, I am guessing Gonzales and Ameen maybe? after he watched them on Tuesday in the cup game vs Newport.
I expect a fairly well changed team as you too suggest. And it's always nice to win and build a bit of confidence. Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Batch on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:22:29 Exactly reeves. A good chance for Ollie to cast the eye, but not a representative game.
Sorting side - couldn't care less. Financially - how much do we get from knockouts? Enough to exchange the DRS beer soda stream gas? Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Peter Venkman on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:31:51 Ultimately the result doesnt matter a jot, but I would think that Ollie will want to see what depth of squad he has inherited and also winning would take us into the knock out stage and a win will earn the club £10k whereas losing you get just £1k so that helps.
Also winning breeds confidence. Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Legends-Lounge on Monday, November 4, 2024, 09:40:00 Hopefully, with a new manager breathing fresh air into the squad that they’d all be up for it and want to play.

Think it will be close to that suggested line up, although would like a back 4. Can't see Minturn starting after playing all 120 mins at the week end and cramping up. Cotterill for Minturn therefore my only change from your XI. The front 3 looks exciting. Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U11 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Anonymous77 on Monday, November 4, 2024, 13:51:50 Pretty sure even if we lose on Penalties we go through on Goal difference, so effectively don’t lose in 90 mins and your through to the next round.

Will it last, who knows, but its like a breath of fresh air! Absolutely agree, he actually seems happy to be here, unlike ALL the rest of our recent appointments going back probably 20+ years (possibly excepting PdC) who all sounded like they were just going through the motions, which in the end they all were.Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U21 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Frigby Daser on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 16:47:41 Agree with the above. I was sceptical of an appointment of someone that had been out of the game for as long as him, and after what happened at Grimsby. I remain pretty cautious on that. But… compared to Kennedy he is a breath of fresh air. There is a scenario where he does well, and doesn’t want to go elsewhere because he is 61 and doesn’t want to be travelling far from home. That in itself makes him focused on us as a club, perhaps, rather than his own career (as has been the case with his predecessors).

Hope he does well Perhaps a test of trust and responsibility from the manager, to see if he has future leadership qualities as well as good technical ability. I hope Ameen, McGurk and Glatzel do well. I personally feel that two of them should be starting league matches - especially from a creative output POV. It's a shame any who do well will leave at the first bid because otherwise we could genuinely have a golden generation coming through. Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U21 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: McGurk's Missus on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 21:06:04 Great to see the lad McGurk get on the scoresheet with the type of goal his early technical ability would attribute to in any division or cup. An absolute stellar finish in close quarters.
I thought Mitchell did well, showed desire and determination to win the ball back. He's raw but there's a very developable player there. Nice to see confidence from Glatzel to keep on having a go. His awareness will evolve as he grows as a player, so will look for those better options. Not going to berate him for application though and being captain for tonight was a no harm kind of project, in a low risk game. Not Butterworth's biggest fan but he combined well with McGurk to take his goal very well. All in all, it was just a reserve match, with a bit of pocket cash thrown in. As for the Spurs fans heading to the bogs every so often...I'm sure they were just powdering their noses, like any self-respecting gentle lady would ;) Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U21 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: RedRag on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 21:12:28 Town were fairly staid tbf in the 1st half but it sounded like they came out supercharged for the 2nd and when the pic. came back they looked really fluid and sound. Pleasing performances from the youngsters (Ameen aside who couldn't get involved) with the midfield and FBs linking up well and the forwards giving them options.
I would note that the referee was blowing up for very mild grappling by L2 standards. The game was quite a bit cleaner and softer than what will await on Saturday. Title: Re: Swindon vs Spurs U21 BSM Trophy Thread Post by: Frigby Daser on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 21:30:28 Those games will never have the intensity needed to show players at their best, but there were signs from McGurk that he is the missing cog we need, whether at the front of a midfield 3, or more likely as a wide forward with licence to drift inside. McGregor goes from strength to strength. I’ve been wary of building him up too much, but his confidence is phenomenal, with the ability to back it up. Sky is the limit there.

King lost his man. Just watched the highlights Bit harsh on King. There is an audibly clear shout from Delaney for the back line to step up - which King does. Unfortunately it’s the youngster who doesn’t hence why he’s the only one near a Spurs player. Great goal by McGurk - such little back lift as well. I can’t fathom why we’ve had a succession of managers who haven’t tried to build the team / formation around him. Yes, that’s exactly what he’s doing he’s running away from his player because he’s reacting to Delaney’s call for the defence to step up to play the Spurs strikers offside. I’ve only watched the highlights & King might well have been atrocious for the rest of the game but don’t think he’s at fault for the goal because it’s McCormick who hasn’t stepped up with Delaney. King wasn't hauled off at H.T., so this seems to be a correct interpretation, especially as king's positioning appeared to be entirely deliberate. Don’t think much can be read into Delaney going off at HT. That was likely to manage minutes with Hall also only doing 45 minutes. Holloway said post match that Delaney, Hall and King were all only really capable of 45 mins (I think I heard correctly) but he asked King to do a bit extra and told Delaney and Hall they’re doing a half each.
