Title: Non-STFC L2 Transfers & Rumours
Post by: Nemo on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, 14:02:02
This got a mention in the other thread, but there's probably enough news around to separate STFC rumours from other clubs around us signing players.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64156853

Jake Forster-Caskey to Stevenage looks an annoyingly good signing, although he's a ball playing midfielder which doesn't seem like obvious Steve Evans areas. Hadn't realised he was Nicky Forster's stepson.

To make space Stevenage have sold Arthur Read to Colchester. We've played Colchester twice already so not one we'll care too much about.

Barrow looking to offload players in January to balance the books, mainly trying to get fees for those OOC in the summer who won't sign new contracts to try and raise some cash for Jan signings.

I think they wont be the only ones, several clubs close to their own wage limits, Crawley will be offloading many very soon too it seems, Gills also looking to offload as they march towards non league and Donny also offloading too.

Honestly shocked DJ hasn't made it at a higher level, he really looked like he had everything to move up. Still young though.

What's the latest on Tyreece Simpson is he still injured at Huddersfield?

He has come off the bench in the last 4 games for Udders.

Cheers JJ I hadn't heard that he was back with the first team squad after his injury and great news that he's playing again.

Head Coach Mark Fotheringham has handed first Huddersfield Town starts to four players in today’s Emirates FA Cup Third Round game against Preston North End; 12.30pm kick-off at Deepdale.

New loan signing Matthew Lowton goes straight into the side for his first Town appearance this afternoon after joining from Burnley this week.

He is joined by summer recruit Tyreece Simpson, who makes his first start for the club after his four recent substitute appearances.

Matt Jay from Exeter to Colchester seems a great signing on paper, always struck me as one of the best players at this level. 16 goals for Exeter last season.

That's a very strange signing considering he's played 18 leagues this season, only 26, dropping down a league and a local Devon lad. Maybe he's moving for other family reasons as surely Colchester can't be paying him lots more money to sacrifice so much

Gills splash the cash for Timothee Dieng from Exeter, triggered his release fee said to be £100k+.

Jamille Matt looks set to sign for Walsall or tranmere with both clubs having agreed a fee with FGR for him.

If we hadn't signed Austin I would have happily had us sign him, hes always a handful at L2 level and a good target man.

Lee Angol to Sutton United from Bradford City for an undisclosed fee.

Giant striker Kyle Hudlin returns to Huddersfield from Wimbledon and looks set for a loan to Grimsby Town.

Alfie Kilgour from Bristol Rovers to Mansfield, that looks a decent signing.

Mansfield have also sold Oli Hawkins to Gills, who are doing some serious business in this window:

Gills have a million pound war-chest apparently during this window, I hope they crash and burn and get relegated.

I thought you had to submit a budget at the start of the season?

I mean, they're bottom now and six points adrift, they clearly need to get some reinforcements in. If they did go down, I wonder if SL would rock up there as manager next season!

You have to submit your expected gate reciepts for the season to set your prospective wage budget, but teams relegated are given 1 year leeway I believe, and anyway FGR got around that with bonuses etc as will the Jills.

A league above but I note Fleetwood have signed Jayden Stockley and Jack Marriott for what they call ‘substantial fees’. I think both had been linked with Gillingham.

Certainly no shortage of money at that level!

Obviously lots of rumours flying around but confirmed deals so far are in short supply - but one in at Newport, our next opposition.

Charlie McNeil on loan to Newport from Man Utd, young forward, will be available for the weekend. Scored a lot of goals at youth level but we'll see how that translates.

Newport also loaned in Matt Baker last week, Stoke defender.

Peterborough have signed in-demand forward Kabongo Tshimanga from Chesterfield, who has scored a shedload in non-league.

Dan Kemp joins Hartlepool on loan from MK, left winger signed from Orient last Jan deadline day. Really notable that almost all the lower league deals already done today are loans. Permanent transfers take longer to get over the line I guess.

I heard Orient badly want Telford and had an offer accepted but couldnt get anywhere near his wages hes on at Crawley so that looks unlikely.

DJ signed for Wimbledon - be interesting to see how he does considering he has rarely played for Charlton since he left us, considering he had the talent when he was with us, but for whatever reason numerous Charlton managers never played him regular

I would have snapped their hand off to get him back, I think he could still progress well with good coaching, I think also knowing Wimbledon manager when he was manager at Charlton helps his choice.

Here is a round up of all League 2 window signings and their percieved strength.

https://offtheline599656488.wordpress.com/2023/02/09/sky-bet-league-two-transfer-table/

Quote
12th – Swindon Town

One name – Charlie Austin.

Say what you like about him, but if you can get a consistent supply of quality chances into him in and around the box, there won’t be many better finishers in the division between now and the end of the season, and it could be a great bit of business for The Robins.

Yes, I know he was added on 30th December, but what’s 2 days in the grand scheme of things?

Departures of Ben Gladwin and Louis Reed weakens the middle third, but the permanent capture of Jake Cain could be an able replacement having started well.

The return of Joe Tomlinson is a superb bit of business, having impressed on loan last term.

Equally, landing Frazer Blake-Tracy on a permanent basis is a fabulous bit of business for The Robins.

Dylan Kadji is the latest off a strong Ashton Gate midfield production line, and he looks a good player.

An under-the-radar window, with a handful of nice additions to their squad, and plenty for new boss Jody Morris to work with.
