Whilst i knew the story about Bristol City and how close they came to going bust in 1982, i found this video on-line today, being a World in Action documentary about it at the time. Different times watching that...

Might well make an interesting comparison piece to 'Football Dream: the academy' starting on Channel 4 next week.  About Crystal Palace academy kids.

1982...it really was a different world back then - Better in some ways, far worse in others. The documentary looks so quaint now and of course Alec Stock (then a director of Bournemouth) was the entire basis of Ron Manager, the Fast Show character.

The World In Action theme tune is absolutely fantastic - It's a great piece of music in it's own right (there were actually two - the opening theme and a more downbeat closing theme which was replaced by the Wurzels in that particular episode) but if you are of a certain age it is so evocative and really brings back some memories. Love the Weekend World theme as well.

Love both of these as well from the 70's...very different but equally evocative...

I've got World at War on a DVD boxset, and you're right, it's an excellent theme tune.
