Title: Walsall tickets/travel/pubs/info thread
Post by: Bob's Orange on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, 08:59:12
I thought it might be handy to have a seperate thread where people could post if they have spare tickets, or have info on trains, or pubs etc.

I'll be driving with me old China and plan to park at the Bescot/Poundland Arena, but it would be good to mingle with like minded fans if anyone knows of pubs that are away friendly where I can consume my one beer?  :pint:

I think most will be going to new street station to have a drink around there.

Obviously if wanting to park up that doesn’t make much sense for you.

Cheers. Yeah if going by train i'd do that also. I think there is a small chance we could park up and get the train from Leamington but not sure if that's likely, we'll see.

I see the block to the immediate left of the away end is pretty much empty. Pity we couldn't get that as well.

From Walsall official site -

We would like to inform supporters that tickets for our final match of the season against Swindon Town on Saturday 7th May can only be purchased by supporters with a previous booking history with us.

Swindon Town have sold out their full allocation and no further tickets will be available to away supporters.

We advise any supporters who have not got booking history with us not to travel to the game on the day as you will not be able to get a ticket.

Good opportunity for Walsall fans to make some money there. Buy some tickets and sell on for a fiver extra a pop.

Do SAS have a strict zero  :pint: policy on coaches, is this mandated? Also do they arrive relatively early? Would quite like to find the majority of our following! Also Qunk is looking for 1 away brief and 1 seat on SAS travel if possible.

Yeah, it's against the law unfortunately. Rule that only applies to football. Take a few premixed in coke bottles or something and no one will be any wiser.

If its anything like it used to be, they frustratingly aim to get there about 2pm no matter what and take many pointless stops at services.

Get the Walsall train and get off at Bescot Stadium station. Was carnage for the FA cup game as all the trains were cancelled due to breakdowns and Covid absences. Hopefully fine this weekend.

Leaving around 9 from Reading Station. Gonna grab some grub in Birmingham then get the train to Bescot. I have a feeling it may be good to get to the ground early to get a decent spot!

Are people likely to sit in the seats they have on their tickets? 5 of us going and mine is away from the other 4  :)

I find it very hard to believe that a team wouldn't allow other fans to buy empty seats to make money...
it is very different there.  here in America, you buy whatever seat you can.  In college football, people
selling their season seats for one big game can pay for the entire season for them or can pay for a lot
of bills for the school.
crazy not to make more money.

there is strict segregation here in football. Home fans and away fans can't sit together.

A hangover from the 80s when soccer hooliganism was at its peak. in fact it would probably 'kick off' now.

it seems like a backward step, but there's nothing like being amongst your own.

Rugby have no such rules. And they're why it's a silly game.

I'm sure they will want to ensure they sit in the seats they purchased! ;)

I think my ticket isn't next to China either so it will be interesting to see what sort of policy they adopt/

Surely if people don't go to their purchase seat it would clause a big knock on affect with 200 people stranded about standing on the stair aisles.

It was a free for all in December (at least in the side stand)

Problem is I bought two tickets at the same time, and they are in different rows and 20+ seats apart.
If they’ve done the same for families then I can’t imagine anyone being happy to leave their kids sat on their own

Just seen this posted on STFC supporters Facebook page.

Quick note so plan ahead, anyone travelling by road, M6 jct 10 closes on Friday and does not open till Monday, Traffic being brought off up and over to rejoin, this is VERY likely to have a major knock on effect and traffic from Jct 9, Bescot exit, and beyond. Would not want anyone to miss the start of the game due to traffic

Going by my experience for the FA cup game - not at all likely ! Tried to get to my designated seat, but no chance ! Had to stand in the aisle, but quite enjoyed it in the end !

Our tentative plan fwiw is to do the bulk of the drinking in and around New Street Station and then get the train to the Bescot around 1.30/2 ish. It looks like there are about 4 trains an hour to Bescot stadium. Worst comes to the worst we can jump in an Uber. I don't think there is anything around the ground in Walsall so thirsty people will be much better served in Brum.

We discovered the Sir Charles Napier when we were there for the FA Cup game. It's in walking distance of the ground and welcomed away fans. Not a great pub though.

I use NordVPN and connect usually to Norway / Sweden. Doesn't always work first time but usually does.
