Title: All things cars
Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Saturday, March 19, 2022, 09:38:32
It's been a few years since I purchased a decent second hand car just wondering what people's experiences were using the car supermarket in Swindon, good, bad, indifferent and whether it's best sticking with the main dealers.

They are all overpriced. Just cut out the middle man and do what the dealers do and buy at an auction.

Not sure where they are these days. Years ago I used to go to Empress motors in Abertillery or Frimley car auction.

We got the wife's car at Carshop for a really good price.

Tried to buy a car from Carshop last year, they fucked around for over 2 hours firstly price matching and then trying to get paperwork sorted and track down the keys for the car. I got fed up and walked out in the end. Would've left sooner but the smarmy cunt of a salesman was still holding on to my driving license from the test drive.

Bought from Cazoo in the end. Painless and straightforward.

A friend of mine had a similar experience they also started to slither out of price matching a car of the same spec etc so like you he walked away. The Cazoo idea is something I hadn't considered so may look into it.
Cheers for the feedback it's much appreciated.

Carshop wasted a lot of our time trying to sell us deals we didn't want. Then they had the cheek to offer £25 for our well maintained good runner 2005 Micra, in part exchange. We paid top price for a Hyundai because it waa just what we wanted in the end, but will avoiod them in the future.

£25 you would have got more by scrapping the car off!
There seems to be more disgruntled customers than happy ones from chatting to various people so won't bother wasting my time with them

probably the same as ‘we buy any car’,  they’re all a bunch of robbing crooks.

Ordered my new 2022 Vauxhall Grandland Ultimate on February 4th, still haven't see one in the flesh yet, only 4 in the whole country, they only started manufacturing them on February 10th and have a backlogue of up to 1 year!

So chances are I may not have my new car until at least Christmas 2022 due to the computer chip issue.

The dealer won't actually give me any indication as to when the earliest possible delivery date will be as they have absolutely no idea yet. One Vauxhall dealer is suggesting delivery for cars ordered now is likely to be August 1st.

I will be happy with August 1st rather than February next year!

I like the premise of the program but can't bring myself to be able to comfortably watch Tim Shaw who comes accross as being a knob.

it is a bit formulaic too. But the team do a great job those rust buckets.

I find Tim far less puncher than Mike Brewer

Wow, I get how much you don't like him now.

Can we agree Fuzz is a good bloke, and a good drummer and that Ed was better than Ant (not seen Elvis) .

I like Ed, Fuzz is ok but haven't seen him in anything other than CSOS, Ant is self centred and egotistical, Elvis has no personality.

Tim Shaw is a funny one, the role he plays in Car SOS is peculiar and irritating and rather hides the fact that he is an incredibly bright and award winning engineer in his own right. He equally does my box in, but when he actually talks to the people I do accept you can see that he does actually have a decent side to him.

Plus its worth looking at the interview he did with the holocaust survivor Kitty Hart-Moxon, meant to last 1.5 hrs, he interviewed her for 7 hours and from recollection was at one stage trying to work with schools to get them to play what she said to kids!*

Fuzz is brill, what with the music, cars and buses a true renaissance man used to be technical editor of Practical Classics magazine, know a guy who has had dealings with him in the real world and what you see on Telly is what he is!

* No I am not his agent, just did a fair bit of reading about him in the past as assumed he couldn't be the complete prick he comes across as on the programme!

I had never even heard of Fuzz on anything other than Car SOS, turns out I have seen him drumming with "The Beat" on at least 6 occassions, once when my band were supporting them! small world, he obviously made little impression on me though!

I've seen him in PWEI and TWS. Stourbrudge's* finest bands...

Depends on when it was. Morton Everett was their drummer at one time but they have had a number of incarnations.

How can you forget the mighty Neds, possibly the best to emerge from Stourbridge, oh and Fuzzbox!!

He also drummed/drums for BRA plus his solo album was bloody good!!

Variously over the last 15/20 years, last time was about 3 years ago just before Ranking Roger died, he was a lovely man I had the pleasure of meeting many times, he wasn't a car fan though :)
