Title: STFC vs Sutton U MoM
Post by: Red Frog on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, 21:38:26
Always deserved to win that, but probably should have been 1-0 if the two offside goals had been seen by the idiot with a flag. Up there with the worst performances from the officials this season, but on the pitch we dug in and was great to see a few good showings from our threadbare squad.

I consider others (tonight Baudry!) but I  always seem to end up voting for McKirdy.  Anyone else think he is quite good?

McKirdy

Without his directness we don’t win that game imo

I thought:
- Wollacott commanded his area well
- Hunt and Odimayo were very solid if not spectacular
- Baudry and Conroy did well, but both made 2 mistakes that could have resulted in goals (looking up and losing the ball and hoofing the ball overhead without knowing what was behind)
- Reed was very good in  the first half and poor in the second (and I don't mean the sending off)
- Aguiar, after a very good couple of games, has been getting progressively worse. The game passed him by. I think he needs a break and it was definitely the right call to take him off.
- Iandolo had square boots on and seemed to miskick most things
- Williams was bright, bubbly and dangerous in the first half. The early promise turned into frustration and anger before he faded
- Davison took his goal well and chased shadows. Most of the time though he seems one or two steps away from where he should be. (e.g. As a number 9 you would have expected him to be where McKirdy was to score the second, but he was 2 step behind him) Also, with the ball he was wasteful
- McKirdy drifted in and out of the game. Several dangerous runs. I said during the game that we needed some 'McKirdy magic' and I think we got it. But, I was even more impressed towards the end, when we were under a bit of pressure and he kept running into space to receive the ball and try jinking runs to release pressure, run down the clock and see the game out.
- Payne: Didn't get into the game. Didn't seem to have the energy that we normally see
- Egbo: A nice little cameo that helped relieve pressure.

So, I feel like a bit of a McKirdy fan boy, but he is currently the person I pay to watch.

Going for Harry purely because he scared the shit out of their left back.

Yeah, McKirdy.

Good effort from the back 4 and JJW as well.

Game of attrition last night. Thought Baudry and Conroy did very well considering but I'm going to give it to McKirdy, full of running and gave their full back a roasting. Got a goal and should have had a penalty in the Reed red card incident.

You have to hand it to the lad. Sacrificed, probably rightly so,when Cooper and Tomlinson signed now back in the team and as you say, hardly a foot wrong

Always been a fan of Odin (Thor and Loki not so much) as he goes about his business with little drama and has tended to step up when needed. Some older pros and captains in the game should probably take note. He's quite the model pro in a lower league set up - without any apparent ego on display.

However, I've gone for Harry Styles Belafonte McGirty McKirdy as MoM. Comes back in, scores a goal and all with much more maturity than previous. I'll take that version of McKirdy for the rest of the season please.

On McKirdy, I think removing the Jester suit helps increase his stock. Whilst it's all funny and a good laugh on social media, it does eventually wear thin. In a short career, does he want to be a player remembered for being a wind up merchant (off the pitch) or one who harnessed his talent and grew into a great forward who oozes composure? I'm sure the latter will earn him more respect. The odd wind up on occasion (possibly on the field) is fine but he needn't let it override his actual playing ability and allow him to get too carried away. He's much more talented than that and Town could end up with a decent L1 (poss Champ) level asset on their books.

A real honest player.
Distribution often questioned but makes up with his pure desire, pace and commitment.
Such a quiet and modest lad off the field.
