Title: The great Storm…

How bad can the wrath of nature bestow upon us?

24 hour news has hyped this up to seem so much worse than it actually will be.

It's just a bit of wind FFS.

Similarly with the Tom Daley story. The storm seems worse on the Welsh coast looking at the recent news coverage.

I'm driving down to Cornwall later, I expect the roads to be lovely and quiet. Did the same journey in similar stormy conditions back in 2019 and it was absolutely fine.

Famous last words though.

Just ventured outside and it's pretty wild out there and quite deceiving when looking out of the window from indoors. Buses & train services cancelled but not one mention on the safety of articulated lorry drivers!

Virtually no wind at all in coastal south Cumbria at the moment, absolutely pissing it down though.

Pah, fookin snowflakes.

In the storm of '87 we used our coats as sails on the school playing field for Olympic like sprinting. There was hardly a broken leg or dislocated shoulder between us. Nothing "Disprin Doris" the school nurse couldn't patch up.

I find it odd that so much fuss has been made of this storm...Cobra meetings, first headlines on the news, special meetings of emergency services etc etc, yet when storm Arwen hit Scotland and the NE, causing massive destruction and some loss of life, there was nothing until afterwards, when a lot of people were without power for up to ten days and more.
Seems there's still a long way to go with this levelling up malarkey.

At least if there was anything in the bins you won't have to worry about picking the contents up😀

South Somerset/Devon border its up to probably 60mph winds already with lots of trees down and flooding, off to Swindon later for the weekend so hopefully the roads will be ok by then.

Tis not looking good though down this end of the country at the moment.

It was soon after this that I moved the dog turd bin and wedged it between two robust plant pots  :)

A 10ft trampoline has blown over a 6ft fence near me, two random guys are trying to wedge it somewhere safe.

Not going to engage in a dick waving contest, and social media makes it worse, but the north does, and for that very reason is why less fuss is made as simply you get used to it, same as my brother who lives in Sweden laughs like fuck about how we go on about a little snow in this country when he spends 4 months of every year digging his car out every morning to go to work.

As for the point RWB Robin made re Arwen it was bloody odd insofar as it just wasn't remotely reported prior to the event, to such an extent I went away with a group of mates to a remote part of the Dales which obviously we wouldn't have done if we thought shitty weather was incoming and we got snowed in with no power or water for two days, in winds I could barely stand up in (never known wind like it!).

Now whether that was south v. north bias or a met office fuck up who knows, I suspect there will be corn beef legs in force in the Bigg Market tonight though.

I wasn't getting at any of those now suffering from Storm Eunice. Wouldn't wish it on anyone..but just to set the record straight, winds of well over 100mph were recorded, including 120mph in Eyemouth just a few miles from here, the roof was taken off a local vets surgery, a famous coastal park In Dunbar was denuded of trees, and several people died, including one in Northumberland from hypothermia  because power was not restored for two weeks......and two police officers were spared when their car was crushed whilst they were a few yards down the road tending one of the fatalities.

Certainly not a competition, but it was a fearful thing here, and I hope others benefit from the warnings and planning  for this storm.

Lost a fence panel so far. Ironically not the one I was expecting. It is early and I expect it to get much worse. I do need to do one side of the garden this year anyway, so any damage only expedites the replacement.

On the North/South (making more of a fuss) thing; its always been the case.
2 reasons:
1 Its less common down here, and the infrastructure takes more of a battering as its less built for it.
2 Most of the media types live around London.
Exactly the same with floods; mate who works in the industry compared the lack of fuss over flooding in the North vs the coverage of (far less serious) flooding of the Thames around Windsor etc.
He described the effect as 'When the effluent hits the affluent',
Either way, stay safe all!

Since when did house insurance companies start excluding fencing from house insurance coverage? Haven't claimed a penny from the bastards for at least 15 years and when I do have some storm damage it's not bloody covered. Grrrr!

We've had a fence panel damaged (not quite down though) here in Melksham, sister-in-law's whole bastard brick wall alongside the house went though. Took 9 of us 45 mins to clear it all.

I always assumed it was, as it is part of the property and everything else is - apart from gates apparently. Oh well it's only money and all that.

Quite a bit of damage outside, lost three fence panels at the front, tree down and hit the shed and destroyed the next door neighbours fence, luckily missed his summer house, expecting winds of 50 mph plus tomorrow, here on the east coast we took quite a hammering 55 mph winds with 80 mph gusts yesterday.
