Title: Bristol City
Post by: stfcjack on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, 11:24:56
I don’t have a Guardian subscription but those who do might find this interesting https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2022/01/12/bristol-city-facing-points-deduction-transfer-market-collapse/

Kieran Maguire has said the club has lost the equivalent of £412,000 per week for the last 10 years. How on earth is that possible 😂

Because they're owned by a billionaire, it's that simple. Basically every club in the Championship loses astonishing amounts of money. Hardly any football clubs in the pyramid are financially viable businesses in their own right with wage levels where they are.

Our whole game is utterly in thrall to money, usually rich single investors. It's not a good place to be, and wouldn't wish it on any club.

I don't think you need a Guardian subscription to read Telegraph articles ;)

There is a bit more info about it here

Seems like their issue is going to come next year whereby if they fail to make a huge profit they are going to breach a threshold (39 million) and face a points deduction next season.

Ah bollocks that will teach me for typing quickly!! :D

Madness though isn’t it. I know it’s been said a million times but my word they’d be fucked if it wasn’t for Lansdown.

Yet we're known as Swindle. Over spending by £10 million a year for a few decades is cheating, no matter how they try to dress it up.

Surely they must have broken sustainability rules and should get a points deduction- Reading did recently. Think they’ve lost in one year what you’re allowed to lose in 3

Just have to look at Derby to see what happens with the money men pull out. Tbf, I wouldn’t put Lansdown in the same league as Mel Morris.

The problem is those losses have only sustained their Championship status - got nowhere near the Prem. Chickens coming home to roost at a few clubs now.

Swiss Ramble is, as ever, good for analysis of financial precarity in football.

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1476455418855575552.html

it's extremely unlikely Swindon could ever hope to compete in the Championship without a billionaire benefactor but it'd be nice to visit occasionally.

So is going bust in 1982 and not facing any extra relegation, but they got away with it.

Brentford owner has put in £104M to get them into the Premier League including a new ground which is about half what Stephen Lansdown has put into Bristol City.

Just goes to show it's how you spend it and recruit that makes the difference. Still City fans will be saying they are a bigger club than Brentford.

I would say Bristol City are a bigger club then Brentford. Then again I would say Sunderland are a bigger club then both Brentford and Bristol City.
