Title: STFC vs Hartlepool U MoM
Post by: Red Frog on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, 21:36:50
Phew. Still horribly flaky at the back, but at least we upped the pace going forward after the break. Who do you pick out from that performance?

As stated in the MDT Williams easily for me, full of running, great goal and some good play.

Simpson ran him close and KKH just behind him, mcKirdy ran around a lot without much end product but for me he really helped Simpson today.

Had to be Williams. He was everywhere and what  a goal.

Williams followed by odimayo.

Simpson was mostly good with a touch of less good. Was brilliant after his goal though

Williams has such a burst of pace when he needs it. He was all over the left hand side of the pitch tonight, both finding space and playing others in.

Simpson could have had a hattrick on another night. A clumsy and bustling style but effective.

Easily Williams, but Simpson in 2nd half.

Williams and Simpson only candidates but Williams shades it. Who voted Iandolo seriously, he’d improved lately but had a mare tonight!

He always does. He's very consistent and often goes unnoticed. The times he is noticed is when he does make mistakes as they are generally clustered together

Williams for me - a consistent performance throughout from a player who’s a class above League 2. Great work rate, and a header you’d expect from a big centre forward rather than a midget midfielder.

Actually, that’s a deserved mention for Odimayo above. Quite often in recent matches I’ve forgotten he’s been playing, which is a compliment for the most part as suggests he’s quietly solid.

Yep, Williams. On that form a class above.
Maybe even more than that.

Williams or Simpson. Jonny shades it.

Not sure about the two votes for Iandolo. Overhit pretty much every cross first half from decent positions.

The Welsh Wizard tonight.
However Wollacott though kept us in it.

Another vote for Williams here.

I also thought Simpson grew into the game and did brilliantly to muscle through for the goal. Looks to be coming back a bit to look for the ball to feet now, and his hold up play is improving. One thing though, I swear he ducked a cross to the back post in the first half!

I thought Jonny Williams had his best game for us. It is very rate and quite strange for me to agree with the sponsors man of the match!! I also thought Simpson was excellent last night as well, held the ball up well, was strong and bullied their defence especially in the second half. Well deserved goal and very unlucky not to have 2 with a superb save from the Hartlepool keeper.

Another word for Odimayo as well. He seems to be getting better and better. Goes about his business quietly but effectively. He sticks out less than the other Centre backs as he doesn't try the hollywood passes and keeps things simple. That said he has good pace and is comfortable bringing the ball out from the back. One lovely piece of skill on the byline in the second half that saw him past his player shows he has ability.

Yes, I saw that. He really doesn't like a header does he.

Yeah and thats by no means the first time he has done it, hes a fucking huge lump and I am sure with some specific training it would be easy enough to improve, I thought he was excellent again yesterday though, his hold up play and strength was brilliant at times.

He bullied the ball in the net for the goal and he seems to be very fit too as he gets better as defenders tire late in games. I would say most of his goals have come in the last 20 mins of games where he is still full of running against knackered (and often much older) centre backs, look at Oldham away for instance.

My footy app gave Simpson M of M.
